What we do

Love Rowing is British Rowing’s Charitable Foundation and was launched in December 2019. We work closely with the British Rowing team to achieve mutually beneficial ambitions.

In June 2021, we launched The Big Row – our annual fundraiser and we have continued the momentum from there. A trustee led charity, Love Rowing aims to transform lives through the sport, bringing new diverse communities to rowing. We want more people to experience rowing, whether on land or water, with a focus on traditionally underserved groups, including;



Young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds

Just 9% of rowers are from lower socioeconomic groups compared to 47% of the population.



Disabled people

Four in five disabled people would like to be more active given the chance.



Ethnically diverse communities

Only 4% of British Rowing members are from ethnically diverse communities compared to 18% of the population.

How we do this

RAISE FUNDS

We do this via events, fundraising challenges, corporate and individual donors, and grants to fund accessible and inclusive community rowing programmes across the UK. We have tailored projects in partnership with rowing clubs and we have an open grant fund round once a year.

ACT AS A CATALYST

If you are a school or rowing club who wants to start a project, we can help. If you are a club who wants to start Mixed Ability Rowing or start an adaptive project, we can help.

For example, we link up independent rowing schools to advise and partner with state schools who may wish to start rowing. We have relationships with charities such as The Silverlinings Brain Injury Charity and Camsight… and we link them with rowing clubs to bring more disabled people into the sport.

MEASURE IMPACT

What matters the most to us and what drives us, is that we make a difference to people’s lives through our projects.

We have relationships with many rowing clubs across the country and organisations who deliver the projects. We visit these projects, we talk to teachers, the students, the participants, the charities and partners on a regular basis to ensure the funds are being spent in the right way and that we are always learning what works best for that particular club or project. We aim to share our learning across our projects and the wider rowing community.
