NEW GRANT OPPORTUNITY – Adaptive Rowing Equipment Fund 2025 OPENS ON 20 June 2025

British Rowing and Love Rowing are working in partnership to create more opportunities in rowing to broaden its reach. Together we aim to change lives and want to break down barriers that are stopping disabled people from accessing the physical and mental health benefits the sport brings.

We are excited to launch the 2025 British Rowing Adaptive Rowing Equipment Fund.

If you are a British Rowing affiliated club or associate organisation aiming to create more opportunities for disabled people to access rowing, but do not have the equipment to make this happen – this grant opportunity is for you!

More information can be found in the grant making policy to assist organisations to understand the decision making process and requirements of receiving a grant.

What we are looking to fund:

  • Grants are available of up to £2,000 per club for equipment.
  • The equipment should create more opportunities for rowing clubs to meet the needs of disabled people.
  • There should be a connection with a Learn to Row programme held by the club. This could be a dedicated programme for disabled people / adaptive rowers learning to row or ensure that a club’s Learn to Row programme can integrate and meet the needs disabled people / adaptive rowers into the activity.
  • The equipment should aim to enable rowers with a disability or impairment to progress and develop their skills on the water. The goal should be to keep rowers with disabilities rowing!
  • A commitment to learning more about how to coach adaptive rowing / mixed ability rowing. In addition to the grant of up to £2,000, British Rowing will offer CPD to support coaches.

Criteria:

  • Applicants must be clubs or associate organisations affiliated to British Rowing and be located in England.
  • We are not able to fund individual rowers.
  • Priority will be given to clubs who have previously not been able to offer any form of rowing opportunity for someone with a disability or impairment, due to lack of equipment or coaching skills.
  • High scores will be given to applications that demonstrate how the equipment is part of the club’s overall aims and objectives to create more opportunities and widen their reach to more disabled people.
  • High scores will be given to applications that can evidence need and consultation with disabled people (existing and / or new participants at your club).
  • High scores will be given to applications that can demonstrate social impact and expected benefits for disabled people such as reduced social isolation and improved social cohesion, improved physical and mental well being. Including how they will measure this.
  • Applicants that can evidence match funding will be treated favourably.

the love rowing open grant round is currently closed

We achieve our mission by working in partnership with schools, community organisations and rowing clubs. A fundamental way we achieve this is through our annual open grant round which is normally open in the winter. If you are considering an initiative that fits with our mission to transform lives through the sport of rowing, the Love Rowing open grant round could be for your organisation. Watch this space!

More information can be found in the grant making policy to assist organisations to understand if their organisation and project is eligible to apply for a grant, and to understand the decision making process and requirements of receiving a grant.

What difference do we want to see through Love Rowing funded projects:

Grant applicants need to tell us what difference and impact they will make through the delivery of the project to open the doors to rowing for new communities and positively impact on people’s lives. There are various ways rowing can make a difference. Think about how your project can make an impact and how you would measure this. These are areas we would like you to consider:

  • How will your project tackle the under representation of our target audiences in rowing?
  • How will your project improve the perception of rowing being an inclusive sport?
  • How will your project improve participants’ physical health and well being?
  • How will your project improve participants’ mental health and well being?
  • How will your project improve life skills such as teamwork, resilience, self-discipline and leadership?
  • How will your project improve participants’ self-confidence and independence?
  • How will your project reduce social isolation and improve social cohesion?
  • How will your project improve education attainment?

We do not expect each project to make a difference in every aspect.
