Clare Glackin is delighted to be taking on the role of Co-Chair. Rowing transformed her life. She was very lucky to have the opportunity to row twice in the Blue Boat at Cambridge and as an U23 for Great Britain, winning a silver medal. By day she now heads the Industrial Practice of Odgers Berndtson in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Her expertise lies in assisting Boards with CEO appointments. She advises FTSE and Fortune 500 businesses, ambitious start-ups, multi-generational family-businesses and private equity-backed companies. Clare began her career in civil engineering. Clare said: “I am delighted to be joining the Love Rowing Foundation Board of Trustees as Co-Chair and I look forward to helping to bring the transformational experience of rowing to more individuals and communities who have not previously had this opportunity.”

Nick Steel

Nick Steel

Co-Chair and Trustee

Nick serves Love Rowing’s mission to transform lives through participation in rowing as Trustee and Co-Chair. He is a certified executive coach and chartered geologist with a corporate background in international upstream energy. He is now an advisor to energy companies, executive coach and rowing coach, visiting lecturer, trustee and fundraising director for a charity supporting young adults with disabilities. Nick still rows and sculls competitively, is currently the adaptive rowing representative on the Thames Regional Rowing Council, and former Maidenhead Rowing Club captain. Nick is adaptive rowing coach for his club and lead indoor rowing coach for Invictus Games Team UK. 

Nick said: “I am delighted to work closely with Clare and the Board of Trustees to enable transformational change through Love Rowing’s inclusive and accessible projects. I have had the privilege of working with Invictus Games competitors through IG23 and IG25 iterations and have witnessed the power of sport in supporting recovery, building communities, and truly transforming lives. I have benefited from rowing for 48 years and am keen to share my passion to enable more people to enjoy the physical and mental well-being benefits of our sport.”

Dr Cath Bishop

Cath competed at three Olympic Games and became the first British woman to win the World Championships and an Olympic medal in the coxless pairs. After retiring from the Olympic team, Cath went on to have a career as a diplomat with the Foreign Office and now works as a business coach and consultant in leadership development. Her book The Long Win was published in 2020 to rave reviews from across the sporting and business world.

As outgoing Chair, Cath said: “I am delighted to be continuing my work with the Love Rowing Foundation Board of Trustees, handing over to the safe hands of Nick Steel and Clare Glackin as Co Chairs. I am committed to continue supporting Love Rowing’s aims and mission to progress the inclusive growth of our sport and bring the transformational benefits of experiencing rowing to more individuals and communities across the country.”

Seb Walker

Seb Walker

Representative of British Rowing

Seb sits on the board of Trustees as the representative of British Rowing, where he is a Nominated Director.

Seb’s career began in the Civil Service working for the Ministry of Defence on international defence policy and planning, and later in the Cabinet Secretary’s private office. Moving to J.P. Morgan, Seb held various business management and strategy roles. After J.P. Morgan, Seb had a role at a fintech start-up before founding a competitor analytics firm serving global banks and strategy consultancies.

Seb began rowing in 1990 while at Clare College, Cambridge and went on to row in the winning 1993 Cambridge lightweight crew. After graduating, Seb was a member of a few clubs in London before joining City of Cambridge RC. After captaining his club for a few years, he joined the Eastern Region Rowing Council. Seb continues to coach and row at the club. Seb is also a Director of East Anglia Youth Rowing, empowering young people across the region by providing accessible, inclusive opportunities to engage in rowing.

Roger Bayly

Roger Bayly is a Managing Director with Alvarez and Marsal and is a member of its European Leadership team and has over 20 years of experience in corporate turnaround, operational restructuring and mergers and acquisitions. He works with Boards and Leadership teams of both private and public companies in both advisory and interim roles and has worked across Europe, the U.S. and Asia. Prior to joining A&M, Roger served in a variety of roles as a senior advisory Partner at KPMG. His early career was spent in a variety of engineering and operational roles in the European auto industry having completed an engineering apprenticeship at Jaguar Cars. Roger earned a master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge University. In 2011, he was Insolvency and Rescue’s Turnaround Practitioner of the year and in 2014 completed an executive Leadership Programme at INSEAD

Anne Buckingham

Anne is a lawyer qualified in both England and America with a twenty-year career as in-house counsel for large multinational corporations.

She has also held several rowing related positions including being a board member for Community Rowing, Inc. in Boston and Leander Club. Her volunteer roles presently include International Liaison for both Henley Women’s Regatta and the Head of the Charles Regatta and increasingly common roles in commentary, and amongst her other wide ranging volunteer roles, she was especially proud to be NPC assistant to Team GB Rowing at the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Ellen Buttrick MBE

Ellen is a European, World and Paralympic Rowing Champion in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four and current Great Britain Rowing Team member. Alongside her sporting career, Ellen has worked with a number of national charities and is a dedicated volunteer with professional experience in Diversity & Inclusion. Recognized in the 2022 New Year’s Honors List with an MBE for Services to Rowing, Ellen has completed her MSc in Gender, Policy and Inequalities at the London School of Economics.

Sally Corander

Trustee

Sally leads the projects subcommittee on Love Rowing’s Board. She is the Founder and Director of social impact agency, Interact in the UAE. Interact works with Government and brands to embed programmes for social change. Sally is also founder and Director of RAISE, the global women’s sport series, raising opportunities in women’s sport and leadership.

Sally is passionate about the impact sport and physical activity can have on someone’s life and has seen firsthand how Love Rowing’s inclusive programmes have had such an incredible life changing impact on participants. Sally was instrumental in setting up the Infinity Boat Club in Teesside with Stephen Peel as well as other flagship Love Rowing projects; Row the Rhythm, a community rowing programme across the UK for people who are blind or visually impaired and Ready to Row Bedford; an inclusive youth programme for children who wouldn’t otherwise get the opportunity.

Sally said “The sport of rowing should be accessible to more communities across the UK and it’s fantastic to see the impact Love Rowing has made so far and will continue to grow.”

Hugh Elwes

Founding Trustee

Hugh Elwes is a managing director at PMB Capital, a west end based merchant banking business, where he heads up their financial services advisory practice. He is also a senior adviser to Stephens Inc, the family owned US investment bank. He has over 35 years of experience advising public and private companies on  mergers and acquisitions and fundraising in the wealth, asset management and related services space. 
Hugh’s son Charlie Elwes won a bronze medal in the GB men’s rowing eight at the 2020/1 Tokyo Olympics and then a gold medal in the GB men’s eight in Paris in 2024.
Hugh said: “I’m proud to be a Founding Trustee of Love Rowing. I’m a firm believer in the transformative impact of rowing and am committed to enabling more young people to access this fantastic sport”.
Phillippa Lennox King

Phillippa Lennox King

Trustee

Phillippa has over 10 years’ experience in the non-profit sector in the U.K. and in Hong Kong. More recently, she has worked for Business in the Community (BITC). Phillippa worked with businesses across the U.K. to inspire, engage and challenge purposeful leaders to take practical action to mobilise their collective strength as a force for good in society. Before BITC, Phillippa worked in Hong Kong for several years for both The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, as well as The Outward Bound Trust. She has also rowed for Great Britain as a junior athlete, and coached rowing at Leander Club, The Lady Eleanor Holles School and Wimbledon High School. Her twin sister, Joanna Barton (nee Cook), was part of the 2012 Great Britain Olympic Rowing Team.

Inclusive Programme and Impact Manager

With more than 20 years’ experience in community sport and the sport for development sector, Gil has worked across the UK in local government, national governing body and the charity sectors supporting disabled participants, young people and under-represented groups to access safe and meaningful experiences. She believes deeply in the power of sport to build confidence, belonging and opportunity, and has seen first-hand how the right environment can transform lives. Gil is committed to making rowing more inclusive and representative.

Ben Gallagher

In 2019, Ben suffered life-changing injuries while serving in the British Army. He was shot multiple times and received severe blast injuries. The recovery was long, both physically and mentally, but through sheer resilience and an introduction to rowing, Ben found purpose again. From winning Invictus Games gold, to World Indoor Rowing Championships, Ben has shattered limits. Now, he’s on a mission to give back and make rowing accessible for everyone. 

Ben led the Big Row Hike Row fundraising challenge for Love Rowing in September 2025, and he continues to be one of our Ambassadors.

 

Grace Prendergast OLY

Grace Prendergast OLY

Ambassador

Grace is a former New Zealand sweep rower. 15-time national champion, an Olympic champion, a five-time world champion and Boat Race winner, having competed as part of Cambridge University Boat Club’s (CUBC) women’s crew in 2022. 

Grace is an Ambassador for Love Rowing, which started with her active involvement in helping to organise The Big Row 2024; Paris to LA. 

Ben Pritchard PLY

A former cyclist and triathlete, Benjamin’s journey took an unexpected turn when he became paralysed from the waist down after a cycling crash in September 2016.

During his rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, he discovered indoor rowing, quickly catching the attention of British Rowing staff. 

Ben is Paralympic, World and European Champion and World Record Holder. Ben also won BBC Welsh Sports Personality of the Year in 2025. 

Ben is a huge advocate behind the scenes for Love Rowing and is generous with his time to support the charities ambitions to break down barriers for disabled people accessing rowing.

Gregg Stevenson MBE PLY

Gregg Stevenson MBE PLY

Ambassador

World and European champion Paralympic gold medalist, world record holder and motivational speaker.

A former Royal Engineer Commando, faced and overcame a traumatic injury and double leg amputation in 2009. Many would have given up. Gregg didn’t. Instead, he pushed forward with unwavering determination, forging a new path that would lead him to the pinnacle of his achievements — a Paralympic gold medal.

Gregg is a project Ambassador for Rowing to Success. He also provides his time as an in kind donation to support our impact assessment of the project bringing his expertise in health inequalities.

 

Love Rowing is also supported by the staff team at British Rowing, who provide value in kind business services support to the Foundation, keeping our cost base low and enabling the funds we raise to go directly into the our three programmes.
