This weekend, the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 and Love Rowing mark the final adaptive rowing taster session of the summer, bringing members of the Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) Armed Forces community together at Maidenhead Rowing Club to support their recovery and rehabilitation from physical and non-visible trauma.
The session is the third event delivered through Love Rowing’s 12-month programme as an Official Social Impact Partner of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027. Funded by Team Forces, the programme is using the power of rowing to support recovery, wellbeing and community connection.
Following sessions at Worcester Rowing Club in June and Hereford Rowing Club in July, the Maidenhead event gives participants the opportunity to get on the water, train with accredited coaches and experience an inclusive approach to rowing.
The programme also builds on Love Rowing’s wider connection to the Invictus Games community through its Ambassador Ben Gallagher.
Ben competed for Team UK at the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023, winning gold in the Men’s IR6 4-Minute Endurance Indoor Rowing and bronze in the Men’s IRB3 Criterium Cycle. He returned to the Invictus Games at Vancouver Whistler 2025 as Team UK’s Indoor Rowing coach.
Ben Gallagher, Love Rowing Ambassador and former Invictus Games competitor, said:
“Rowing played a huge part in my recovery. I know first-hand how sport can rebuild confidence, create connection and give you something to word towards. I’m proud others can now discover the those benefits through Love Rowing and Birmingham 2027.”
Ben’s journey from Invictus Games competitor to Team UK coach reflects the role sport can play in creating new opportunities through recovery and connection. Indoor Rowing will feature at the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, where 550 competitors from across the Invictus Community will come together at the NEC from 10–17 July 2027.
